"I
think I'm funny," says Donovan. "I just don't know
anything about drawing comic strips. Now tell them about my
two dogs."
Donovan, 29, has two dogs. A
lifetime fan of comic strips, he decided not to let his lack
of drawing ability keep him from contributing to the form.
Digital photography offered the opportunity he was seeking,
and he began to create photo-comics and post them on Mikedonovan.com.
Since then, Donovan has appeared in many local newspapers.
Not in the comic section, in the police log, for a variety
of misdemeanors.
"Hey, that's not true,"
he objects. "People will think I'm a hoodlum. Step away
from the keyboard; I'm taking over."
In real life, Mike Donovan is
a computer nerd and spends his days writing code. He is exploring
the theory that you can only write so much code before you
go crazy and start making comic strips using photographs of
yourself and your friends.
Donovan's extended-length comic
stories still appear on his website, www.MikeDonovan.com.
His new, traditional-sized comic strip MikeDonovan.com appears
exclusively on MyComicsPage.com.
