2013 CHARTER BOAT SEASON
has been cancelled
!
i am truly sorry for having to announce this decision to not operate the charter boat

Several factors have led to this, the economy being the biggest factor of all. Insurance, maintenance fees, fuel costs, taxes, etc. are all reasons/excuses/factors. We started the charter boat in the summer of '07 and have ran successfully each summer until now. The boat was never meant to be a money maker, just a great way to get more divers diving. We have some amazing divers that the crew called "the regulars" that I can't thank enough for their continuous returns to the lobster and wreck dive sites. They kept the boat and the crew in business. They are also the "regulars" in the store, keeping their gear serviced, going on group trips, and purchasing new gear. Again, thanks.

CAPE DIVER CHARTER BOAT

Charter Recommendations : So when you "Pick Your Dive Site" remember this...

* All dives to Race Pt. in P-Town, Nauset Ledge Drift, and Monomoy Wrecks require the larger Lobster Gauge!! 3 3/8" and up! We can't afford to be boarded by the authorities with short lobsters!! (And this happens WAY more often than you think!!) If you'd like to purchase these prior to or even on the charter, we have them available!! Thanks

**This indicates the dive trip is for a single tank/dive! A quick trip, but well worth it! These dives also have the "or ??" indicating that the divers on the trip can decide which wreck to go to....
Port Hunter/Taussig/J.Paul/Sagamore/Kershaw!!

****All NAUSET LEDGE DRIFT dives for Lobsters are VERY "FOG dependent"!! If we schedule Nauset Lobster dives and it's too foggy, we will try to dive other locations such as Monomoy wrecks (yes there are usually lobsters there, not as many but some). We cannot cancel the trip if the weather is good enough to dive alternate spots. The trip cost will be reduced to the closer location's usual fee (typically $90). We can put divers in the water when we are anchored, but we can't let them freely drift in the fog for obvious reasons!! We cannot and will never "promise" lobsters.

*ALL TRIPS CAN BE CHANGED TO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS DEPENDING ON THE WEATHER CONDITIONS ~ SO PRICES MAY CHANGE WITH LONGER TRIPS, HARBOR LOCATIONS AND TIMES CAN CHANGE AS WELL!
*When a charter is marked as BOOKED , those Charters were selected by a customer who wishes to fill the boat or one of our dive classes has filled the boat. You may get on the stand-by list ~ we have frequent cancellations!

Booking a Charter: In order to book these charters, we'll need you to call or stop by the store with your Credit Card # and Cert. Card(s).
Copy of Charter Dive Waiver
. Please fill out and bring with you to the boat! Thanks

Remember: A reservation made is a reservation/dive PAID! In order to put your name on the list, we'll need to tell others that slot/space is full. Yes, we will try to get someone else on the charter if you need to cancel, but this reservation means you have paid for the dive; period! The captain will make the determination as to whether or not the boat will leave the dock on the morning of the charter. If the weather is looking bad, we will try our best to call you with as much notice as possible.

Reservations are made by full pre-payment that is non refundable. If you cancel your reservation you forfeit the full payment. If our captain cancels the trip, we issue a full refund. Cancellations by our Captain are made on the day of the charter, one hour before sailing time . We cannot guarantee dive sites, alternate dive site selection does not constitute a cancellation or a refund. Our boats sail on time.

To: Boat Docks/Harbors/Marinas/Slips/Meeting Places, etc.

Certification/Experience/Equipment Requirements:

All divers will show proof of their highest attained level of diving education for all dives.

For dives east of Cape Cod, divers will need to be at least Advanced Diver Certified AND have at least 25 dives in New England waters, no matter what depth, PERIOD!

For all dives to 100' or deeper, divers will need to be Advanced Diver Certified and have redundancy of gas/air supply (pony, doubles, etc - Spare Air not OK). 130 cubic feet on each diver with at least 19 cubic feet in redundancy (Pony tank or doubles with Isolation valve).

All divers will be required to have a Safety Signaling Device (safety sausage), Sounding device (whistle), and an underwater checking device (brass clip, dive reel, etc.) for all dives! There will be loaner/rental kits for all divers who come unprepared.

Each diver taking lobsters will need to produce a current Lobster License from MA. Each lobster/scallop/crab/etc. will be at the discretion of the Captain/Divemaster as to whether it is legal and is OK to keep. There is no "boat license" for taking of lobsters or marine life. NO Spearfishing unless every diver is armed! No "Tiles" from the Port Hunter! All dives to Race Pt. in P-Town, Nauset Ledge Drift, and Monomoy Wrecks require the larger Lobster Gauge!! 3 3/8" and up! We can't afford to be boarded by the authorities with short lobsters!! (And this happens WAY more often than you think!!) If you'd like to purchase these prior to or even on the charter, we have them available!! Thanks

ALSO: We only have a small port-o-potty on board = PLEASE ADJUST ACCORDINGLY!

Remember: This is only a 25' boat with a large tank rack. Please consolidate gear as much as we can to accommodate everyone's gear. Soft sided bags/small totes are best. Thank you.

Several of the reasons that there hasn't been a charter are some of the same reasons we'll give to divers that you must be an Advanced/VERY Experienced Diver in order to dive Monomoy. Strong currents (and we're not drift diving), Heavy Fog (excellent navigation skills are required to dive these wrecks=a wreck reel is preferred), Big critters (lobsters, whales, seals, basking and other kinds of sharks), etc.
I find it very difficult to describe the amazing dives off Monomoy and in the same breath have to nearly talk everyone out of the dives because of the advanced nature of them. Your hundreds or even thousands of dives over many decades DON'T count unless they are COLD weather/water dives!! Oh, and cold is not a 3MM suit with a diveskin! 7mm Suit, Hood, Boots, Gloves/Mitts or DRYSuit ONLY!!!! And, I truly wish there was a better name for the "Advanced Certification" Card that people have. Yes, you took an Advanced course ~ but that does not make you an Advanced Diver ~ it's name should be Level 2 or Scuba Diver 2.0 out of many, many levels. You can own a card with the word Advanced Diver on it but no class can't take the place of experience. I have certified Divemasters that aren't ready for Monomoy wrecks and I have certified people on their first dives that are calm enough and skilled enough for those dives!
To get on some of these style dives, just come out with us on some of our other dives, we'll evaluate your skill level, and then decide whether you need more experience or are ready to tackle dives off Chatham, MA.
Hope to see you out there next season!
